You can ask your friend to be the interpretor. According to USCIS rules, family members can not be the interpretor. However, some USCIS officers may accept family member as the interpreter. Wnen my mom went to USCIS, Santa Ana office for her green card interview, we were required to bring an interpretor (my coworker). However, the officer who conducted the interview told us that I could serve as the interpretor since he felt that I would tell him the truth.
So the bottom line is to get a friend as the interpretor. It is up to the immigration officer to decide whether to use him/her.
The interview itself should be very straight forward and fast (10 miniutes). They just asked some standard questions and gather some new documents.
Good luck
