J1 student does not have OPT, but they have Academic Training. It is similar to OPT but not exactly the same. Contact your school's international student office for details.

J1 scholar is here to work so they don't have Academic Training. Their status ends when the DS2019 expires.

You need to find out if you are a J1 student or J1 scholar. Have a look at your form DS2019. It is noted there.
