I140 is applying for the immigration quota for a beneficiary by an employer or a sponsor. After you get I140 approval (granting of immigration visa), you can file I485 to adjust your non-immigration status to immigration status (green card holder). This period is called as AOS (Adjustment of Status) because even you are applying I140, your status is still a non-immigration status. So after your I485 is approved, you will have a green card (actually kind of yellow) to identify you are an immigrant (green card holder). Now clear?
You're nt smart as you claimed
