here is my story:
i applied for the skill assement by myself and got it approved, i even took the IELTS test. And i was going to do the second step, which is the real application for immigration by myself too. But i stopped since i got the Canadian's first -- The Australia one was a backup for me at first place.

Since i did not go all the way, i cannot give you a completed answer. Good luck anyway.
