urgent, please help

We went to local uscis office for passport stamping and were refused. The reason is that the I485 approval letters have not asked us to go to the local office. Instead it said the alien residence carr will be mailed to us in 120 days. We have booked our air tickets to China in June. My question is "Can we still travel with our Canadian passports along with the approval notice?" I am hoping we could get the stamping at the border when we re enter US after our visit to China. Please share any information or experiences you have. Thanks so much!
