I think you are qualified for NIW. But the critical thing is recommendation letters that, as you say, should pack you as a giant and talented person for American interest based on your few publication and current works. I strongly think your current work has benefited American national interest although it may be different from your former major. Otherwise, why your employer hires you. I always think any field is part of American national interest, which is fully dependent on your debate in your recommnedation letters.
