If you have no experience in filing this kind of cases before, it will be definitely helpful to you to refer some successful petitions. Of course, you cannot simply COPY those cases because no people have the same background as your specific one.
If you still have a lot of questions after reading those references, and you are not fully confident that you can master this issue very well, please stop doing it by yourself. Go to ask helps from your close friends if possible or better to hire a lawyer! Remember it is most important for you to get your case well prepared and, finally APPROVED.
For me, I spent a lot of time in preparing my two I-140s (EB1a and NIW). The cover letters were 17 pages and 18 pages long (single line, font size #12), respectively. After careful revision/modification (did many times by myself), a nice American friend helped me to check the English. I believe this was a significant strategy for me to get my cases successfully approved though only a few words were changed by that American friend. Imagine what the Immigration Officers will think about if they are reviewing a petition written in poor English but the petitioner claims he is one of top scientists in his field (EB1a) !
Moreover, I believe LUCK is the #1 factor that leads you to get the US GC.
Good luck, man!
