if H1 transfer, your H4 may have some time left.
But you said the hu*****and is doing H1 extension, your H4 i-94 must has the same or earlier expiration as H1, so you must do the H4 extension the same time. (and of course, USCIS need to make the H4 decision after H1 extention result is out.)
