I contacted Gao Oct. 2005. I think he is quite good and responsible. He will not write reference letters for you, only petition letter and forms. As usual, the petition letter is written by copying and pasting your materials and reference letters with some proper wording.
I am studying chem. eng for a PhD degree. I have 15 publications and conference presentations, first author for half of them, 5 citations, 1 patent, committee member of an international conference twice. 7 reference letter, 1 from advisor, 1 from chair of dept. 1 from other Univ. 2 from industry, 1 from state gov. agency, 1 from China.
