Make sure you have valid AP before you re-enter US. Keep your lawyer notified in case your 485 is approved while are in China, then at the entry port, you may be challenged by the officer, keep your lawyer's contact by hand.

You may or may not be able to use your H4 status to enter, but AP is definitely required otherwise your 485 case will be abandoned.
