I didn't even hear about I-485 and I-140 three or four years ago. I only knew manay people got green card therefore they can stay at USA forever. But I apply by myself last year without hire a laywer and got my I-140 approved under NIW. So, just spend some time, it is much easy than you obtain a degerr in USA. Good lucky!
