Did your parents speak English? Did you write their purpose of visit and request for 6month stay on paper so they could hand over to the immigration officer when they come here? I did it. So my parent came this month just submited the paper and their passport as they do not speak and understand English. They got 12 month on I-94 (On the paper, I requested officer issue 12 month on I-94 if it is possible and gave my address). That may not help for this time. May be a tip for next time.
