Additional Security Checks

Just received a letter of "ADJUSTMENT OF STATUS NOTICE" from the district office saying that "Additional Security Checks have been submitted and are still pending". Does anyone have any experience, knowledge or idea about this kind of notice? What're the Additional Security Checks? And why?

Any sharing is very much appreciated!
