Not true.
After filing I-130/I-485, you become I-485 pending and can work using EAD (upon EAD approval). You should be getting conditional GC in 3 months to 2 years depending on where you live. And can file for naturlization 90 days before the 3-year anniversary of the I-485 approval. Also, if GC is conditional, the condition needs to be removed within 2 years of I-485 approval.
