I got my visa in beijing, here are things you need to bring:
1. employment letter from employer
2. I797(H1b approval letter).
3. I-129, just in case
4. recent pay stubs
5. bank statement, bills, things like that just in case.

Do you visa the first thing you arrive, it takes some time. it is worse if you need to go to interview. Get a visa/AP from here if you can.
