visa & status.

There are two critical concepts: visa & status.

Visa is only used at the airport. You need to hold a valid visa when you enter US.
Status means whether you are legal in US.

It dose not matter if your visa is expired as long as you have legal status in this country.

If you want to travel, if your visa dose not expired, you can just use this visa to enter US. If your visa dose expired, go to American Embassy to apply a visa.
