new EAD application

Our i-485 is pending. My wife got her EAD in Aug. 2003, but never used it.
Now she wants to apply for a new EAD, since the old one was expired. Does she
need to go through the way she applied for her previous EAD again and wait for
2-3 monthes to get a new EAD ? We were told that she can go to CIS local office
to get one on the same day ? Does anyone have this experience ? We are at
Los Angeles.
