status question?

我剛轉成F1 才半年. 不幸得了重病, 可能會在三個月內動手術. 今天打電話給INTERNATONAL 辦公室的人, 他說讓我找醫生寫封信,說明我的情況,可以合法休一個學期. 有人遇到過這種或聽說過嗎?影響以後綠卡申請嗎?
