We lost receipt letter aslo, We hold China passport at that time, so should we bring that old China passport to the appointment?

-No. You need to bring either your current valid passport or ID (i.e., driver license) when you visit the USCIS Field Office.

and can USCIS provide receipt number on the spot? Or can USCIS provide copy of J-1 waiver approval notice?

-You need to get the receipt number from the USCIS field office, then file I-824 to get the replacement (copy) of the J-1 Waiver Approval Notice. Ask the officers for their suggestion when you visit them.
