I used to have the same question. I filed Eb1-EA on my own (no lawyer), my company filed Eb2 one year later (company hired a lawyer). My Eb1-EA got approved first; Eb2 approved later. My advice to the fellows here are: (1)immigration law allows you apply for the same visa status via different routes, so you may take this advantage by filing multiple applications to maximize success probability; (2) you may do a better job than your lawyer.
