I think your case is not understandable for most American. Community college is the place that educating and helping student to find a job. or you want to have continue education in Community college.
in your case, it is not reasonable for you to quit job and go back to school without any income. It is not common sense.
If you want to go back school (full -time), you can try university. ( i know tuition is higher). they may understand you are highly motivate to start up a new study field.
Or why not go ahead part time study.
