-Many people have full time job, but they register some courses in the school without limiting the credit hours. Because your previous status was J-1, you may be allowed to do the some way to take some courses not as a student. You may take more courses with full load just like an F-1 student. Thus, when your F-1 is approved, your school just put your full load into the system to become an F-1 status. You may talk to the school to see whether they allow you to do that. Just like many H-4 holders take courses in the school, but they are not F-1 students.
