Passport Extension?

I'm asking for a friend:

Parents will come to US for visit soon. But their passport has only 3 months to expire. Right now can't do passport extension in China. They also don't want to replace passport because the US entry visa will also be replaced. What should they do? Will they have any trouble when entering US?
