綠卡排期到後多久之內一定要交485?

爸爸的排期快到了 (F4,他姐姐2002 年 的)
他想在美國呆慢一年後再決定要不要辦綠卡,(現在是B2,人在美國)
問題是他可以在排期後5-6 月才遞485 嗎? 或回國後再在國內?
