H-1B transfer time

Hello, I have a question about my H-1B transfer. After the lawyer submits the H-1B transfer application, how long could I get the receipt? Is it true I could start new job right after I receive the receipt or I have to wait until I get the approval notice? Thanks a lot for any answer!!!
