No one really knows how long it is going to take. It varies from a couple of days to more than a year. In the mean time, you can contact FBI to get the status of your security check. Sometime, the record at USCIS is not necessarily consistent with that at FBI.

You can send a fax to inquire your status, including your name, current address, birth date/year, A#, and case number.
