Here is my situation: 485 pending for more than 180 days, H1B just about to finish the 6th year. There is a higher level position within the same company and same group where I'm currently working. Job description similar to my original Labor Certificate but at a higher level, basically like a promotion of my current position. I would like to apply. If I get the position, will it affect my greencard application in any way ?

Also do I need a H1B transfer at all ?
-If your job change just is promotion with working in the same/similar responsibilities/area, your employer does not need to do anything. But if the responsibilities change substantially (e.g. work in different occupation), your employer needs to file an H-1 amendment.
