according to 485 instruction, file 693 upon instruction.

However, the local office may ask you to file 693 together with 485. Otherwise, you application will be considered incomplete.

Again, theortically, the validity of 693 is one year. However, due to the huge backlog cases with the INS, 693 is considered valid until the decision on your case is made, no matter how long it takes..

Based on personal experience...

how come it take you so long to file the application? you've been asking questions for so long.. don't be too anxious....
