about canada immunigration

I have a question about canada immunigration: Do I and my family need mail our fingerprints to FBI and got approved before applying canada immunigration , that is I mean I have to file the application to Baffulo including no crime record of USA, or just file the application without no crime record and wait, they will tell us where we will go to get fingerprints when they need the fingerprints? Thanks a lot!
