to maintain H-1B status, you need evidence of employment, ususally pay stubs. so if your company did not add you to the payroll, technically your status is invalid. if you continue to work for the same company, you'll be fine because no one would ask you about your pay stubs. however, if you need to do H-1B transfer in a couple of months, hope this will not happen, you need to provide pay stubs to verify your status.
