renew expired passport in Houston china consulate?

If my passport expired and I don't renew it on time in Jan. 2013, I will wait until I plan to return to China, say may, 2013, may be two months before returning, does the china consulate will renew it for me?

I knew I don't need it when I travel inside USA. Thanks.
