advice please - NIW and H1b extension issues

Unfortunately my College will not do PERM for me even I have been a tenured faculty in a community college. I do know the possibility to win NIW for me is very low if I go through NIW. But I am thinking whether NIW application can help me to extend my H1B visa after 6 years limit (my H1B will expire on 9/22/2012 ) so that I can continue working in the College without a gap. My hu*****and's priority date is July 2008 so there may be a gap between my H1B expiration and I-485 submit (as a spouse to be added). Can anybody answer me the following questions? I appreciate it in advance!

1. When do I have to submit NIW application in my case (my H1B will expire on 9/22/2012)?
2. Can the applicant extend H1B after submitting NIW application? If yes, how long will the applicant have to wait after submitting NIW to extend H1B?
3. How long will NIW be processed according to the current situation, which means how long will the applicant know NIW is approved or not?
4. Will the NIW application affect my future green card (as a spouse to be added) or other non-immigrant visa applications (F1, H4, etc.)?
