Advise needed - I 94 expires before return ticket

The visa expiration date on my parents I-94 is a few days ahead of their return ticket date. We can try to reschedule the ticket but it's really a hassle since it involves three section tickets from China to US and they bought it with South Airline in China. Or we can apply for the visa extension and leave as scheduled, but we are concerned this extension may cause trouble for them when they need to apply for visa next time in China.

Has anyone ever had this kind of issue? What's the better way to resolve it? Thanks!!
