The instructions to I-539 form indicate, you need to submit the application for extension for stay or change of status before your current authorized stay expires. What does “current authorized stay” mean?
_that means I-94 duration and you need to file I-539 before the I-94 expires.
Does it include the grace period after your current status expires?
-No. You are out of status during the grace period though you still legally stay, so your I-539 will not be approved if you file it during this period.
For example, if my J-1 status is going to expire on May 31. Is the deadline for submit change of status May 31, or June 30 (J-1 has 30- day grace period after your status expires.) Thank you!
