I receive a notice from NVC to fill out the form DS-230 (Application for immigrant visa and allien registration).

I saw many people talk about I485, why didnot NVC ask me to fill out the form I485 instead of DS-230?

-Because your family are outside of US/in China, they have to file DS-230 to apply for the immigration visa in the US Consulate in Guangzhou, China, not file I-485.

What are the different between DS-230 and I485.

-I-485 is for the applicant who is physically present in US to adjust status to permanent resident, DS-230 is for the applcaint who is outside US to apply for the immigration visa by consular processing.

I am applying F4 (family VISA) and I only fill out I130 before.

Do I need to fill out the I485 too?

-No.
