綠卡在去年9月份批準，今年初去當地社安office辦理社安卡更新，一直到4月份搬家去外州時，被告知仍在處理中。後來去信詢問，卻要求本人前往該office當麵詢問！期間也曾去外州當地的社安office 詢問，被告知無能為力，因為這個case 還沒有closed, 不能從新辦理申請。

我的問題是：1. 這個社安卡的更新是必須的嗎？

-You had better renew the SSN card because the original one may have some kind of benefit limitation. But it does not mean you have to renew it immediately or in a certain period of time after you become the GC holder.

很多周圍的朋友在拿到綠卡很多年了，都不知道社安卡更新這回事。如果不更新，會有什麽後果？

-Nothing.

2． 象我這樣的case, 該怎麽辦？

-Wait for approval.
