My son's case has not been updated to post decision, although we both got the welcome letters at the same time.

Do you think his status is also ready for stamp?
-Yes.

Can he go to apply his social security number by using the welcome notice
-No.
or he has to wait until either the green card or get the stamp on his passport?
-Correct, either one is OK.

He is leaving next Saturday for China. He has AP, there should not be problem for him to come back, right?
-Yes, but get the GC stamp is better. If he can not get the stamp, it is fine to use AP.
