So does it mean i can't start work until Oct 1, 2010?
-Yes, you can work with your OPT for the new employer any time now if your OPT is still valid. Then, your employer (new) can file the H1 petition for you. Then, you can continue to work with OPT until Oct. 1, 2010 even if your OPT expires before Oct. 1, 2010. This is called "Cap-Gap Rule".
