H1B prevailing wage increased sharply in 2008. For example, in Cambridge, Physics, it was ~43k before that, and ~64k after. For chemistry it is about 56k now. For some other field, say material science, it is still low after the increase (~45k) because it was very low to start with.
Best option is Eb1b. I got my H1b in early 2008, then concurrently filed Eb1B 140 and 485 in 10/09, no pp, cards in production 2.5 months later.
