About renew passport in China

If renew passport in US, the passport will be cut a corner. But when you are in China, if same steps is for getting a new one, can you enter US with the old one. The stamps of out of US and in of China are already on that. But the cut corner means that the old one can not be used any more. My question is: does any one has the experience of using a cut corner one to enter US? Thanks.
