we always drive to Canada(we are Canadian citizen, once a month or so) and come back US with AP. As long as I-94 and AP still valid, they are not going to issue a new I-94.
I-94 is valid for 1 year from the date you enter US with your new AP.
My D's AP is from 03/10/09-03/10/10, but the I-94 is 04/12/09-04/12/2010.
