They really feel lonely and depressed. I have a few friends whose parents live there and really really don't like there. Plus, nursing home can be very expensive too, depending on your income and how much property you own.

Relatively, senior assisted living or senior apartment is a better option. You can just pay 100 bucks or so get a nice apartment covering all the utility. Not sure how they handle catering.
