863211: passport pictures

I took some horrendous passport pictures, the background is a grey tone instead of white. looks like somebody took it at home.( though I think a lot people do that) My question is, how serious USCIS is about pictures, if my picture for some reason doesn't comply, what will happen? will they reject my application?
