I think this is the most practical way and save your trouble in the future. The landlord can track you down to anywhere you go in the US and force you t opay whatever amount they ask you--you hardly have any chance to win in het court because of the contract. The only practical way I think for you is to find someone t otake the remaining of your lease and pay some some incentive to him/her, say a couple of months of rent or any amount you think worth it. You will still need to get the agreement from the landlord for the transfer--basically that will be a new lease between the new tenant and the landlord. I totally understand the situation. Good luck!
