I just called the Monterey County Health Services in California to ask the question. According to the supervisor, you can apply for Medi-cal. They do not care if you are a sponsored immigrants if you are over 65. However, food-stamps, housing assistants would require sponsor-deeming rules to be applied.
However, she did say that whatever immigration's actions toward this is out of their control. Sounded like that if the INS wants to pursuit this, they can.
Right now, there are just too many confusions about this issue. Is there anyone here from California or their friends from California had applied for assistant (health, food-stamp, etc.) successfully recently?
Thanks.
