If your PERM was filed > one year, you can file H1 extention for one year beyond 6 year limit. You do not ahve much time to do the H1 extension because it take nearly one month to prepare the H1 extension paperwork. If soemthing does not go well in the H1 extension preparation, you may take more time to file the petition. You have to to file the H1 exteion before your 6 h1 limit expires (USCIS has to receive your petition and put it in the system which may take one week), otherwise you will never be qualified to extend your H1 beyond the 6 year limit any more even if your I-140 is approved. So, you have to do it urgently. I really do not understand some people like you always do this kind of time so late.
