It seems you used the old H1 approval notice to get the h1 visa and the entry I-94, and then worked for the new employer. Technically, it was status violation. So, you can not go to the CBP to change the I-94 duration anymore. But from the positive thinking, USCIS might not realize that yet if your old employer did not report to USCIS to cancel/withdraw your status during that period of time. Therefore, your status may be OK because one person can have two or more h1 status sponsored by the two or more different employers at the same time and thus, USCIS may not find your problem unless they intended to investigate it (I do not think normally they will do that). So, you may just keep quiet and do the H1 extension petition.
Anyway, things may not be that bad as we are thinking. Good luck and Gob bless you!
