I entered US using T/N visa (Canadian Citizen). I filed I-485 in July 2007 and now still pending. My T/N has already expired 2 years ago. I also plan to go back China for see parent during Christmas with valid AP. I have to go to Canada to get visa visiting China from Chinese Consulate. I can also use this opportunity to activate my AP. For you, if you are Chinese Citizen, you don't need visa to go back to China. As long as USCIS issue you valid AP, you should be fine to get back to US. Good Luck!
