However, you can try to use your wife's name to apply for an AP though it can not work technically. However, if the CBP officer at the entry of port does not strict, your wife might be allowed to enter U.S. with this AP. But her I-485 may have problem if USCIS find out this. Anyway, it all denpends on how lucky she is, and I did saw someone like your wife's situation had entered U.S. with such a AP for which was late applied without a problem. So, you may just try if you have no choice.
