First of all, you are not H-1 visa holder, you are H-1 status working in US; second, it is not true that you cannot come back if you visit China. In fact, you will have not problem to come back after you visit China. But make sure you go to US embassy or consulate general to get a H-1 visa in China before you come back. Hope that helps.
